Soul Fly Lodge Overview

The 2025 fly fishing season on the Vineyard is officially wrapped up, and while it may be bittersweet, what a season we had! From sight fishing the flats and throwing big squid flies to bass in the rips, to running and gunning for hardtails, this season stayed action-packed until the very end. While Kismet Outfitters guided fly fishing charters on Martha's Vineyard may be finished until next spring, that doesn't mean we're hibernating! We're currently hosting a group of anglers at Soul Fly Lodge in the Berry Islands, targeting bonefish, permit, triggerfish, barracuda, and more.

While you may have missed this week's trip, we still have dates open for Soul Fly for  March 2nd-8th, 2026. Soul Fly is a premier fly fishing destination not only for the fantastic fishing opportunities, but also for world-class accommodations, food, hospitality, and elite guides. If you're interested in learning more about Soul Fly Lodge, read on.

Lodge Highlights

If you've spent time at fly fishing lodges in tropical locales, you know many can be somewhat rustic and barebones with plain, average food. That isn't to say they're horrible, but fishing is the main draw, and the non-fishy members of the party would be rather unimpressed. This couldn't be further from Soul Fly, and the lodge, dining, bar, and amenities are nearly as impressive as the fishing (which is no easy task).

Local chef Valentina Adderley serves up diners that even the most gastronomically inclined find alluring without being too Haute. Using locally sourced meat, seafood, vegetables, and herbs ensures freshness and reduces carbon emissions.

After fishing, the covered outdoor cabanas are a focal point for unwinding and reflecting on your daily adventures, sipping a few adult beverages, and sharing delicious appetizers. Whether you prefer beer, spirits, or wine, the bar is as well-stocked as your favorite watering hole. Another cool thing about Soul Fly is that the guides generally kick back at the lodge to share a few beverages and give casting advice on the casting deck.

The rooms are cozy and comfortable, and the maid service, like the rest of the staff, goes out of the way to ensure the utmost satisfaction. Returning to an immaculately tidied space with plush beds, quality pillows, and sheets is a luxury compared to the many fly fishing lodges that resemble a Boy Scout's camp more than an actual lodge. With Soul Fly's commitment to kicking plastic, all rooms have multiple YETI water bottles, yet another thoughtful touch.

For those thinking of bringing a plus one where fly fishing isn't their top priority, the immaculate 20 x 50 pool overlooks the Atlantic, and a short path separates Soul Fly from one of Travel and Leisure's top-ranked beaches in the world. Plenty of side quests exist for those looking to expand beyond epic fly fishing, including on-site Yoga with a certified yoga instructor, massage therapy, snorkeling and diving, deep-sea fishing, and swimming in Hoffman's Cay Blue Hole.

The Fishing

As sweet as the lodge, food, and accommodations are, the fishing on the flats surrounding Great Harbour Cay is truly world-class. Soul Fly is in the heart of some of the Bahamas' most pristine bonefish flats, offering anglers unparalleled opportunities to sight-fish to bones in turquoise-colored water. The flats around Soul Fly are vast and varied, ranging from shallow sand flats to mangrove-lined channels. Unlike many overpressured fisheries in the Bahamas, Soul Fly is the only operation guiding out of Great Harbour Cay.

While the Berry Islands are a bonefish hotbed, the permit fishing separates Soul Fly from other destinations in the Bahamas. The guides at Soul Fly have quickly earned a reputation as among the best permit guides in the world and are putting anglers on truly trophy-sized fish. Berry Island permit are not the same cookie-cutter fish found in Mexico and Belize, and can be difficult. Thankfully, Soul Fly Lodge's guide staff all have amassed PhDs in Permitology, and their knowledge of the fish and fishery helps lessen the learning curve for the average angler.

Based on my fishing travels to other permit and bonefish lodges in the Bahamas, Mexico, and Belize, it's standard for there to be one or two ace guides and the rest to be substandard, or worse. There are few things more frustrating than putting in the work, time, and spending money on a dream fishing trip, only to get stuck with either arrogant or incompetent guides for five out of six days of fishing. This is not the case at Soul Fly Lodge, and each guide is professional, courteous, dedicated to teaching, passionate about conservation, and possesses a wealth of knowledge about the fishery.

Soul Fly remains our favorite destination for the fantastic fishing, scenery, facilities, amenities, and overall hospitality. Soul Fly is a well-oiled machine where management, guides, and staff go beyond their responsibilities to ensure each guest has the destination flats fishing experience of a lifetime. There's a good reason why many of the clients we bring to Soul Fly return each year!  We only have a few spots left for our March 2nd-8th, 2026 trip.
