Fly tying with Abe Pieciak

Thursday September, 17th

11:00am-1:00pm

Join us at Kismet for an evening of saltwater fly tying with local artist, tier, and angler Abe Pieciak.

Abe will be tying Bob Popovics’ Bucktail Deceiver, a classic pattern with deep roots in the saltwater fly-tying community, while sharing techniques, tips, and lessons he learned directly from the legendary fly tier himself. Bob’s influence on saltwater fly tying is hard to overstate, but just as important was his willingness to share what he knew and encourage others to learn, experiment, and pass it on.

Abe will also be bringing along a few flies tied by Bob, along with other pieces from his personal collection. For the fly fishing nerds among us, it’s a pretty special chance to see a little piece of that history up close.

More than just a tying demonstration, we think this is a fitting way to pay homage to Bob—by doing what he loved: sharing knowledge, tying flies, and bringing the fly fishing community together. We have a feeling he’d be pretty stoked to see everyone around the vise.

Whether you’re an experienced tier looking to refine your technique or just getting started, come spend an evening learning, talking flies, and getting ready for the fall run.

We’ll also have Abe’s prints, apparel, and flies available for purchase, so you can check out more of his work while you’re here

Fall Fly Fishing School

Saturday September, 12th

@KISMET OUTFITTERS
10:00am-4:00pm

Join Captain Abbie Schuster for a one-day, hands-on saltwater fly fishing school focused on the skills, techniques, and seasonal knowledge that matter most when fishing the New England coast. Whether you’re new to saltwater fly fishing or an experienced angler looking to sharpen your game for false albacore and the fall run, this school is designed for all skill levels.

The day will begin classroom-style at Kismet, covering casting, knots, reading water, seasonal patterns, bait and feeding behavior, presentation, fish fighting and landing, conservation, and more. In the afternoon, we’ll head out on the water to put those lessons into practice.

You’ll also have the opportunity to demo Thomas & Thomas rods and RIO fly lines specifically designed for the demands of our Northeast saltwater fishery.

Cost is $575 pp

BEACH CLEANUP

Island Wide

9am-11am

At Kismet Outfitters, we spend countless hours on Martha's Vineyard's beaches, salt ponds, and shorelines. These places provide us with incredible fishing, unforgettable sunsets, and some of our best memories with friends and family. We believe it's our responsibility to help take care of them.

On Monday, August 10th, we're inviting our community to join us for a Kismet Outfitters Beach Cleanup. Whether you're an angler, surfer, beach walker, or simply someone who loves the Island, we'd love to have you lend a hand.

We'll spend a few hours cleaning one of Martha's Vineyard's beaches, removing trash and debris to help protect the wildlife, fishery, and natural beauty that make this place so special. It's a small effort that can make a big difference, and it's a great opportunity to meet fellow members of the Island's outdoor community.

As a thank-you for volunteering, every participant will receive:

  • 10% off at Kismet Outfitters
  • Access to our post-cleanup Happy Hour at the shop
  • An entry into a special participant raffle featuring great prizes

After the cleanup, we'll head back to the shop to swap stories, enjoy a cold drink, and celebrate the collective effort of everyone who came out to help. We hope this event becomes more than just a cleanup—it's a chance to bring together the people who care deeply about Martha's Vineyard and the waters and beaches we all enjoy.
