2025 Fall Fishing Preview

The last several weeks of excellent bonito fishing have us looking in eager anticipation of Martha's Vineyard's fall fishing season. If you have yet to experience the magic of Martha's Vineyard's Fall Run, stop what you're doing and start making preparations! We've had the privilege of fishing some pretty spectacular places, but we wouldn't trade September and October on the Yard for anywhere! You'll feel the same way once you experience an albies-on-peanut bunker-feeding frenzy.

Fall Fishing

The sweltering heat of August has given way to crisp, yet comfortable, mornings. The tourist hordes have died down, and the streets of Edgartown are now filled with men and women who have switched haute couture for waders, technical apparel, and fishing tackle. Fall fishing on Martha's Vineyard is etched into the Island's DNA!

So what is it about the Fall that brings anglers from all over, from all walks of life, to the Vineyard? For starters, the Island's unique geographic position serves as a magnet for baitfish like silversides, bay anchovies, and peanut bunker, and our beloved gamefish follow in hot pursuit. The cooler water temperatures in the Atlantic bring stripers back in droves as they migrate to the Chesapeake for the winter. False Albacore, one of the most exciting light tackle gamefish in the world, are the Fall Run's star attractor.

The famous Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby runs from September 14th through October 18th, bringing in a horde of anglers from throughout the country and world to the Vineyard's shores. Now in its 80th year, the Derby serves as a proving ground for the best anglers on the Island. Be sure to stop by Kismet Outfitters to pick up your Derby badge and hat, which are included with registration.

There are undoubtedly other great New England fall fisheries, but few, if any, provide the opportunities to catch albies off the beach and rocks like Martha's Vineyard. It must be on your angling bucket list to hook into a hard-charging hard-tails from shore! Whether from shore or boat, booking a guided charter with Kismet Outfitters is the best way to increase your chances of success. Fall fishing is incredibly dynamic, and conditions change faster than a bonito blitz. Our guides are on the water daily and have the latest read on the fishing hotspots on Martha's Vineyard.
